Taking a break from the live music to watch cartoons with Boy & Girl Genius

Sometimes things in life make you ignore diabetes.  Most of the time it’s bad, but sometimes, if it’s for a short period of time, it can feel so wonderful.  I trekked into Boston Saturday morning to see Boy Genius’ music concert.  I saw many of these last year, but you can never go to to many concerts.  I was worried I was going to be late, or not get a ticket or something, so I basically ran from my car.  And I already had a down arrow on the Dex.  When I got there he was sitting with his fellow musicians full of excitement to be playing.  And my heart melted.  If you told me I’d go two months without seeing them, I’d have told you you’re crazy, but it happened.  I tried to get his attention, but he was too intrigued with his other surroundings, so I looked around for the rest of the Genius family.  I found them and Girl Genius was sitting on a ledge.  Mom Genius said hello and Girl Genius was acting all sorts of shy.  Mom asked her if she wanted to get down to give me a hug and so I leaned down to give her a hug and I noticed my legs were a little shaky.  They used all their lacking-sugar strength to hold me and Girl Genius up in her oh-my-god-i-miss-you-but-i-dont-know-how-to-say-it hug.  Those arms felt like they were never going to let go.  My mom later asked if I cried, and I almost did!  When she did let go, I asked her if she was trying to tackle me to the ground, and I heard the giggle I’ve missed so much.  She went back to her ledge seat and I found my tabs, but every once in a while when she needed to be held, she found her way over to me where we stood together as though no time had passed.  When I saw Boy Genius he was excited to see me as well, but hugs are way over-rated to a 9 year old boy.

On the non diabetes detail of this – the concert was at Symphony Hall in Boston. 9 years old and playing there – what an honor!
