Drinking with a Test Strip
Yesterday I was able to go to my first synchronized swimming class/lesson of the year. I am unsure whether I will be able to continue this for the rest of the year due to different work & swimming schedules this year, but I wasn’t working yesterday so I was there for the WHOLE time, which was awesome. I used to help out (volunteer coach) three years ago when I was searching for a job, so it was awesome to be able to help out again. Although the kids who I used to help can swim circles around me now!
After swimming I was stable around 200, but shortly before I was going to bed, I started dropping. I’ve been on the higher side lately so I didn’t worry. But around midnight I woke up covered in sweat, and checked the Dex wondering why it hadn’t woken me up. It had to have beeped because it was reading LOW (below 40), but I didn’t hear it. So I opened the jar of tabs and ate the rest (there were 4.5). I then looked at the juice box and grabbed that, but it didn’t have a straw. So I grabbed my test strip and started stabbing the aluminum hole and it worked! The corners of those strips are sharp enough to poke a hole in the juice box. It’s definitely not as easy as a straw, but it does work! I then came downstairs for baby fruit, and then ate PB & fluff out of the jars. When I started shivering from the sweat, I went back upstairs. I fell back asleep after a while and was surprised when I was floating along the 200 line this morning (I assumed I would be over 300).
Let me be the first to say it… very MacGyverish of you
200 isn’t bad at all, when you feel like you’ve massively over-treated!! Thanks for the test strip tip – I’ll keep that in mind next time my straw goes missing, as they tend to do.
I think it was last week or the week before when I couldn’t find my straw. I had changed my reservoir the night before. I used the needle to fill the Animas reservoir to poke a hole in the foil of the juicebox. We are hardcore!
