HAWMC: Time Capsule

April 1, 2012

For the next 30 days, I’ll be participating in the WEGO Health’s Health Activist Writer’s Month Challenge.  Diabetes is going to be ever-present and I’ll be writing EVERY DAY.  I’m a little bit nervous because I’ve never done anything like this before, but I’m excited too!  If you’d like to join me, head on over to WEGO’s blog and sign up!

Health Time Capsule Pretend you’re making a time capsule of you & your health focus that won’t be opened till 2112.  What’s in it?  What would people think of it when they found it?

The only time capsule I remember making was in elementary school.  When I picked up the neighbor’s children later in life I wondered if it was still there.  I wondered if what was in there would be embarrassing?  It’s personal.  A diabetes time capsule: that would be historical.  I could tell my story.  I would know what’s in there and I would marvel at the current technology.  Here is what I would include:

  • Insulin Pump
  • Meters
  • Explanation of Insurance Coverage
  • A List of my Diabetes Desires (like a Dexcom, for example)
  • A list of foods/drinks that my diabetes loves and a list that it hates
  • Foods that I like to use to correct lows

I feel like there is so much more that I would include in this time capsule, but these are the important things (after all, it DOES need to fit in it’s hole in the ground.)

If you’d like to see what others would put in their health time capsules, head on over to the WEGO Health Facebook page
