Pre-Bolus

February 16, 2012

I don’t like to eat frozen meals alot, but I do always like to have them handy for “just-in-case”‘s.  Last night I didn’t have much food that would qualify as a healthy meal, so I grabbed my frozen dinner which called itself Black Bean Mango Rice.  There were other things in there as well, and I tested, bolused and then got it ready.  This thing was a whopping 60g, but I decided to go for the whole thing because of the combo of mango, rice & beans.  I sat down to eat and the spice overtook my mouth.  If you know me at all you know I don’t like spicy food.  What many others call bland, I call spicy.  And then that moment of “oh crap, I already bolused.  FOR 60G!”  I went to my cabinet and found a bag of snap-pea crisps.  The whole bag was 45g, and hey, I’ve been high all day.  Plus, they started as vegetables, so it’s not as bad as just sticking my spoon in the nutella jar, right?  A little while later, I could feel the low coming.  A poke confirmed that I was 68 mg/dL, so I grabbed some tabs and my ice cream.  Not that I was mad about eating ice cream, however, I wanted that dinner, not a crap dinner.  I was so mad that I had to eat so many empty carbs just because I didn’t like the flavor of something I had already bolused for.

Has this ever happened to anyone else?  What did you do?

i hate when that happens. or when you bolus and then halfway through the meal realize that you just really arent that hungry and know you have to stuff it down to cover the bolus.
sometimes i just make a nice cup of tea and load it with sugar to cover the carbs. not the ideal fix, but its easier to drink my carbs sometimes. then i don’t feel like i am eating crap just because i have to.

I'd love to hear what you think about my blog thoughts!
