Last summer (I think) I got a message asking if I knew of any meet-ups in the Boston area for people with diabetes.  I didn’t, but I knew enough people in the area to start one.  So us girls got together for cupcakes.  I don’t know how meet-ups usually work, but the conversation flowed and then all of a sudden it was closing time.  I knew there would be a larger group the second time, and it was the type where we were going to start one place, and then decide as a group where to go from there.  I was running late, so I called Kerri, so after I walked through every crosswalk, she said “Just look for people you know.”  I acted as though this was a completely normal thing to hear, but in that moment “those people I meet online because of diabetes” became friends.  It sounds crazy, but it’s so much easier to explain to the people outside of the diabetes community.  There are still so many of you to meet, but the time for that will come, and until then, I’ll gladly be your friend online.
