Apples as a Solution
September 27, 2011
The past few nights I’ve been waking up in the middle of the night at 45 mg/dL. And then waking up in the morning at 20_. I thought that it was because of the weekend and not paying as much attention to food as I do during the week. So last night I had one of my favorite fall snacks: apple and peanut butter. I hoped that the peanut butter would keep my sugars steady. I never did wake up low, but I still woke up this morning at 202 mg/dL. I am not looking at a snack to be a permanent fix, but waking up with the alarm rather than covered in sweat. Experiments are part of diabetes, and I clearly haven’t totally figured this one out yet, but I’m getting closer.

Actually, that’s not bad. I’ve woken up MUCH worse that that number… That empty strip vial seems as though it’s there taunting, mocking. The nerve…
Step 2. Put the peanut butter in the microwave for about 15 seconds before you dip the apples in it. It takes the snack to the next level.
Step Awesome. After taking the peanut butter from the microwave, add a little Nutella to the mix. Your life will never be the same.
